I believe that new literacies have many benefits in the classroom…WHEN USED CORRECTLY. I believe that new literacies open up a whole new world of exploration, information, and education for our students. It allows teachers to access more new and unique resources. It allows for more interactive and engaging lessons, it saves time, and it allows students to do something they love while learning. Though considering all of this, I do believe that all these benefits have limitations. In some occasions, new literacies can become a distraction, or can become unengaging if it is used for a time period that is too long. New literacies can also overpower a student’s life and become the main source of information and education. This is something that educators need to be consciously avoiding as it is important to have a mix of all the different literacies. A balance is best.
