I really love the idea of using media in a classroom because it is such a huge part of our student’s lives in today’s society. I think that it is a great way to keep students engaged. We can show them videos or posters or podcasts as an aid to the lesson. We can also use multimedia to get/keep students involved in the lesson or use it for an assessment. We can have students use media to create things (posters, videos, etc) to show what they knew, what they learned and now understand, and also what they still need to work on. These are all things I want to use in my own classroom. Not only because of learning about it in this class but because of experiencing it. Throughout my education, I have made posters, videos, artwork, voiceovers and so much more, to aid my learning or for my educators to gain information on my understanding of a topic. I always loved these ways so much more than the average lesson or test, which is one more reason I want to use multimedia in my classroom with my future students. Below I added a cool video I found… this video is one that gives reasons why you should use multimedia in the classroom. I decided to share this video because one, I agree with the topics presented, and two, I think this type of video is one we could have students create in order to show what they know or even to help their peers learn about a subject. Also, below I added a picture of a diagram on using multimedia in the classroom. I added this photo because I really appreciate that it mentions barriers. I think that talking about potential barriers or challenges is important because we are almost always guaranteed to run into one, and it is better to be prepared to face it than be stuck.
As for the barriers and challenges I see with using multimedia
in the classroom, one of the largest I see, other than the obvious few we have
talked about, is the high amount of monitoring that needs to happen, especially
when students are using the internet. There are videos (among other things)
that are either inappropriate or contain misleading and inaccurate information.
As teachers, we need to monitor our students to be sure what they are using or
creating is appropriate. But with 28 students all on their own devices, this
could be difficult.
