Blog Post #2: Exploring Children's E-Books

For this activity, I used Amazon Kindle and a Website called getepic books for kids to search for ebooks... On Amazon, I found 4 books. 3 of them I loved. They were filled with color and they had a great message and were interesting (Today I am Mad by Michael Gordon, Dragons Breath by Michael Gordon, Never Let a Unicorn Scribble, by Diane Alher). There was also a fourth that I read, which I did not hate but once it was downloaded it was very wordy and had few illustrations that were not very engaging (Emerald the Mermaid by Mary K. Smith). Considering all of the observations with the 5 books I think that Amazon Kindle would work alright in a classroom. I believe that it could be an easy free download for parents and students who have amazon or an easy projection onto the board for the class to read. Though finding books that are free and still engaging is easy it could be better. I would say Amazon Kindle would be a 6/10 on the scale for great classroom resources.

The next site I looked at, EPIC, was great. Sign up was needed but I actually love this and it was free. You can sign up as a student/parent or an educator. I chose to sign up as an educator and from there I made a class. With this, I got a class code that I could give to students or parents. I can search books and add ones I enjoy or want students to read to the class. I could also add Videos or activities and so much more. Students can read books or have books read to them and they can also search books if they want more options. There are filters for books including subject, grade, AR levels and so much more. There are books that are super educational and there are books to read for fun. I think that this is a site I would definitely use in class as it can be used in so many ways. I think it is a great resource and I would highly recommend and I would rate it a 10/10.
